I can't say conclusively for absolutely every writer, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find a writer who didn't use a writer's notebook of some kind. A writer’s notebook is many things for many different writers. It’s a place for jotting down new ideas. It’s a place for brainstorming and working through ideas in progress. A writing notebook can be used for free writing, or writing exercises, recording inspirations, outlining, making bug sheets, long hand prose... writing notebooks are used for just about anything.
